I got this infection on the 21 of this month which started with chill and fever after 2 days fever was gone but the rashes appeared itching so bad starts swelling then fallowed with joint pain. This is really bad to get infected, it hurts and aches all over my body i felt like as if someone is peeling off my skin, even though i take the pain killer twice a day…. it still hurts with rashes itching and swellings all over my joints discomfort and feeling nausea all the time, i can hardly walk straight, and felt i walk like a duke. i wish there is some kind of treatment available which reduce the pain and discomfort to get cure faster. Can someone suggest what can be done to ease the pain?

I’ve been fighting this for 2 1/2 months now. I thought it was dengue fever at first. Either way there are no medical cures. I’m not sure where you are at, but look for any herbs that fight viruses, like olive leaf extract, turmeric, ginger and wild oregano oil. If nothing else, eat lots of spicy food since most strong spices fight viruses.

For pain I found ibuprofen is more effective than acetaminophen (paracetamol). Also try taking white willow bark and feverfew for more natural pain relief. They take some time to work, though, so you may want to take both the white willow and the ibuprofen at the same time for a while. You might also need some sleep medication to help you get some sleep at night.

I am not a doctor but can suggest you remedy for fever like this. You can take ginger juice 1 spoon three times a day. It makes the blood veins to cure whatever blockages are there. After having ginger juice you can have honey if feeling hotter that too just for tongue.

Drink boil water 3 to 4 litres in a day so that you flush out all toxins available. This fever can be treated only with discipline life style.

I’m 4 weeks in after picking it up in southern India near Pondicherry. the initial 4-6 days were complete agony with muscle paralysis, joint pain, fever for 24 hours and rash. No nausea for me. After returnedin home to Australia the only ‘advice’ on treatment is symtomatic relief which is fine (panadeine forte with nurofen) but it dopes you out and you’re not able to function properly at work. I’m trying some acupuncture and homeopathic remedies at the moment but the pain still remains.

Does anyone know if the joint pain (hands and ankles mainly) can cause permanent damage?

I recently (end of March 2010) traveled to Indonesia and it seems that I had been infected by Chikungunya fever, as I had all the symptoms except vomitting, and the pain on my joints persist which restricts movement and weakens my body and loosing my sleep! The first symptoms, fever and acute pains all over, happened while I was on the long flight back to the U.S., but then I didn’t realized I had a fever due to the unbearable sudden pains, which I thought it was a result of the stress from carrying luggage and the journey. When I had to get off the plane, I was having a hard time moving, and was limping. I had rash on the first and second weeks, and developed some more rash last night, on my seventh week. I did not expect to get any more rash…I thought the rash won’t come back at this point…and I know that I didn’t eat anything different than what I normally do.

For pain relief, I take tylenol, starting on the 2nd week, one in tne morning and one before I go to bed. After 2 weeks, instead of tylenol, I take one zyflamend (herbal medication for joint pain, available at natural/health food store) in the morning and another one in the afternoon, and one tylenol before I go to bed. I feel the zyflamend helps with the pain, not as much as tylenol, but still bearable. A week ago I started using heating/infra red lamp on my joints, which helps ease the stiffness and the pain I experience in the morning, which seems to be the worst.
Afterwards, I took a half hour hot shower, which helps to relax the stiffness and I also try to move my arms, ankles, and feet, like gentle movements instead of just standing there while showering.

In Austin I have been diagnosed for arthralgias and myalgias and the nurse in charge informed me that the blood test showed high level of inflammation, and she said she didn’t know where the inflammation was from… I do not think the doctors see my case beyond arthiritis problem, and is sending me to an anthiritis/rheumatology specialist.

A doctor friend (a non U.S. practitioner) thought my symptoms match to those of Chikungunya fever, and suggested to seek out an ifectious disease specialist.
I can’t ignore the possibility that I might have been infected by this fever, even though I have read that there is no treatment for it.
Last week I found that CDC performs Chikungunya testing, and I finally insisted on a blood test done for this disease. This way I can proof what I think I have and hopefully the medical practitioners in the U.S. would be more aware about this kind of disease.

Most a good post and reader comments here. I would point out that other people certainly propose a different case, particularly in regards to natural health. Has anyone here located more viewpoints on the Internet, and will you let me know where?

My wife is suffering from Chikungunya since August 2010. Initially she had fever for 3 days. Test showed as Malaria. Once the fever stopped, some rashes on legs appeared. Checked for Chikungunya. Report was negetive. Our doctor informed, invariably, chikungunya test shows negetive. No body knows reason. She had accute pain in Feets & Hand Fingers. No specific medicines available as per our doctor.Only pain killers. After initial 15 to 20 days, we changed over to milder tablets, as continuation of stronger pain killers have effects on Heart & kidney, as per doctor. Pain has reduced but not stopped. We are told, it may take any where between 6 months to 9 months. We also tried some Ayrvedic medicies. But no real effect. Taking milder pain killers & living with pain, is what my wife has mentally prepared to do.

    Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to inform you that my wife was having fever for 4-5 days and local doctor has checked and declared it a viral fever. Almost 4 months have passed, but her acute pain in feets and hand fingers has not disappeared. She is suffering from lot of pain and taking pain killers but to no effect. Now she has been mentally prepared to live with this pain and in the net somebody sugested ZINDA TILISMATH Unani Medicine. In the net it was advised to take 3-4 drop of this medicine with water, alternate day, but to no effect.
Can anybody suggest any medicine may be ayurvedic, unani, alopathic etc. which can reduce/remove pain. I am thankful to him.

    Hi all,
I the last 5 years i got 3 different types of Denque fever that means i still have 1 to look forward to as there is 4 different types of denque and for each type you get resistant for further infektions with exact that type of denque. The nr. 4 i still can get is the 1 that has the most deaths to follow. Last year i got CHIKUNGUNYA in Thailand chiang mai that is the most awefull kind of theese infections i have got, i was very close to die in Bangkok airport. I have been tested in a tropical infections department on hospital in Denmark where they take blood samples and grow the different viruses in to see what is wrong with you. There is not that much to do about it, you can learn to live with it and relieve the pain when nessesary. I use buflex and 600 mg 2 pills and 1 pill ponstan 250 mg. When really bad i can not walk or stand up for more that 5 minutes theese days i eat around 8000 – 10000 mg of painkillers. Sometimes i even smoke a joint to reliefe the pain. besides pills i use counterpain plus from the manufactor Bristol Myers and i use a brand called perskindol both as spray and gel. that helps to reliefe the pain when you need a break from the pills. At least it helps me a little bit. I hope this information can help other with same problem.
Remember craneberry juice can help to clean the kidneys wich is nessesary when you eat all theese pills
